Our history

The Cascade School of Music has been enriching lives one note at a time for over 20 years! Our Belief is that human potential and connection are more fully realized through lifelong engagement with music, and our Mission is to provide individuals with pathways to explore their interest in music through exceptional instruction in an inclusive, accessible and inspiring community.

CSM is a 501(c)3 non-profit music school, which began offering classes in the summer of 2002.

At the outset, there were 50 students of all ages enrolled in classes, ranging from chamber music for strings to African drumming. Classes were initially held on the campus of Sagewood School, a private Waldorf school on O.B. Riley Rd, then at the Cascades Academy on Studio Road, before moving to a riverside location on NW Pacific Park Lane. To make way for a community development and to meet the growing need for music education in our community, the school moved to our larger home located at 510 NE 3rd Street in Bend, Oregon.

When our school began in 2002, we offered 14 classes over a 10-week session, which included instruction in beginning trumpet, clarinet, flute, violin, guitar, banjo, Celtic fiddle, musical theatre, and children's string orchestra.  Over the years, the Cascade School of Music has helped bring music alive for hundreds of musicians. Currently, our school has over 500 students (our youngest is 18-months old in our Kindermusik program and our eldest is 91), and offers private lessons as well as over 60 classes annually.
