Michael Long

Drums, Percussion, Uilleann Pipes, Tin Whistle, Anglo Concertina

Michael Long’s music story began in his hometown of Asheville, NC, an incredibly creative community with deep musical roots.  His drumming career started with a set of wooden spoons, pots and pans, some Motown records and parents who were surprisingly tolerant of noise.  He eventually graduated to actual drums and began performing and recording with bands and musical theater productions.  He studied percussion at the University of North Carolina at Asheville with a focus on World Music.

Over time, Michael added other instruments to his arsenal including Bass, Guitar, Keyboards, Chapman Stick.  He also fulfilled his lifelong love of Irish Traditional Music by learning to play Uilleann Pipes (Irish Bagpipes), Whistles, Concertina, Bodhrán, Bouzouki and Octave Mandolin.

Michael has been living and playing music in Bend since 2014 and performs with 3ofWe on drums, and with The Ballybogs on Uilleann Pipes, Whistles, Concertina and Bodhrán.

As a teacher, Michael is strongly influenced by his other current career as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist as well as by his experience as an officer in the US Army.  His goal is to have students enjoy themselves and experience personal growth through exposure to music.  He looks forward to joining you in your musical journey!
