Guitar, Ukulele and Mandolin
Born and raised on a lake in the rolling green hills of Upstate New York, and well- traveled since then, Sandra brings an eclectic breadth of experiences revolving around music and performance. Early musical explorations in folk, blues and American roots music led to a B.A. in Music followed by a move to Los Angeles where she attended the Dick Grove Music School, studying Jazz guitar, and an inspired program at Naropa Institute studying with the innovative jazz /world group Oregon.
After a hiatus from playing during her two boys’ early years, Sandra began promoting concerts and concurrently founded On Queue Performing Artists, an artist management company specializing in “world music” which is loosely defined as the distinctive traditional, contemporary or hybrid musical styles of cultures around the world. This opened up a whole new world of personal musical exploration, which continues to be inspiring, eye-opening and gratifying. As a result, her more recent guitar skills skew towards traditional music from a number of countries to include Ireland, Scotland, Brittany, Québec and Scandinavia while keeping alive a robust love of pretty much any music that (subjectively) sounds good!
As a teacher, Sandra aims to share her passion for music with her students, meeting them where their interests and abilities lie while also perhaps expanding their exposure to the vast variety of music available to them. We are so lucky to have much of the world’s music at our hands with so much as a quick peck of a finger! It has long been her belief that opening oneself to the often non-verbal (or sung in other languages) world of music also opens the door to better understanding and appreciation of other cultures.
