Piano
Stephen Earl Marshall opened his first piano studio during his junior year of high school and quickly had over thirty students, both beginners and adults. Dr. Marshall has multiple degrees in music, specializing in piano and pipe organ performance, choral conducting, and composition; completed post- graduate studies at Westminster Choir College and Southwestern Seminary; and in 2013, received a Doctorate in Sacred Music through Oxford University’s Summer Program and The Graduate Theological Foundation, working closely with his mentor, Bishop David Stancliffe, presenting a detailed analysis and performance of Morten Lauridsen’s Midwinter Songs.
As an educator, Dr. Marshall has enjoyed building programs, developing curriculum, and creating space for varying artistic expressions by developing innovative learning environments for people of all ages. He has taught at Seattle Pacific University and at Trinity Lutheran College where he served as Chair of the Music Department.
As Music Director and Organist, he has served churches and synagogues for more than forty years, mostly in the greater-Seattle area, building multiple community-based music and arts educational programs, concert series and art galleries. His greatest joy comes from bringing musicians and artists of all ages together and creating opportunities for making a difference in people’s lives through music. He has founded and directed many arts-centered non-profits and owns an award-winning Interior and Architectural Design business.
Late in 2022, Stephen moved to Central Oregon with his talented partner, Brett Bizik, to be closer to family and connect to his Oregon roots. They love their mountain living between Sunriver and Mt. Bachelor with their Scottish Terrier, Ollie. Stephen has two grown sons, Andrew and Alex, a lovely daughter-in-law, Kelly, and a splendid grandson, Aemon.
Dr. Marshall loves teaching, enthusiastically mentoring, and inspiring others to discover and deliver their best selves to the world. He is thrilled and energized to join the community of gifted faculty and staff at Cascade School of Music.
