Performing on the Spot or in a Group
What do you do if someone asks you to perform something, and you don't have anything memorized? Or someone wants you to play a song with them? We will give you some tips and tricks on what you can do in these unnerving situations! All students interested will be given a chance to perform.

Join us for some Strings FUN! (Adult and High School Teen students )
Participants will be grouped into chamber-style groups for playing together. A memorization and "active listening" component will be included as well. All levels welcome within age range.

Percussion Ensemble Workshop (1:30-3:00pm / Studio 18)
In this workshop, students will have an opportunity to be a member of a percussion ensemble. Learning how to play a variety of hand percussion instruments and how they interact with other instruments will make this workshop engaging and fun.

Basics of Recording
Recording yourself can be a great way to advance your creativity and see if you are being productive in your practice time. Come along with us as we talk about recording tools, software and best practices to get you started on your music producing journey!
ADULT MUSIC MINGLE / 4:00pm - 5:30pm / Studio 14
Dive into the joyous world of music making with our Adult Music Mingle, a laid-back, community-focused jam session designed for adult musicians of all skill levels. Whether you’re a seasoned player or someone who’s always dreamed of playing music with others, these sessions offer a welcoming space to explore, experiment, and enjoy music together. Come gather to play a variety of pop and rock favorites, fostering a sense of community and shared musical adventure.

Un-Mistakeable Performances
Ah, onstage mistakes. They are inevitably a part of every singer's journey. This masterclass will focus in on how to handle mistakes onstage, keep composure, and even turn your mistakes into a comeback performance that will leave the audience in awe. Students will have the opportunity to sing for each other in a safe and supportive environment. Please indicate on your RSVP form if you would like an opportunity to perform (mistakes and all)! 5-7 spots for performers.

Performing with Poise, Practicing with Purpose
Hone in your performing skills and learn how to look confident! Everyone will get a chance to perform. Then, a short presentation on "How to Practice Well." We are all very busy in Central Oregon, and every practice minute is valuable!

Easy Improv and Sight Reading in a Group
Each instrument will have an easy jazz-style piece provided, with instruction on how and when to improvise the music. All levels welcome!

Playing with Other Musicians (1:00pm - 2:30pm)
Each student will have a chance to play with other musicians and learn how to listen and communicate through music.

Have you ever wanted to make music on the spot, by playing "off the cuff?" Join us as we learn how to use certain limitations to guide our creativity and express our creative selves by composing in real time!

From Singer to Performer
Students inspired to strengthen their performance skills are encouraged to come to this master class to either perform part of a song to workshop with Slade and Jimena, or come and watch their fellow singers experience the process and progression of going from singer to performer. We will be accepting 3-5 students to workshop their song, but all students are welcome to come, watch and participate in the group singing that will also be incorporated.
Holiday Break
Cascade School of Music closed for a two-week Holiday Break: Monday, December 19 - Friday, December 30. School resumes Tuesday, January 3, 2023.
Cascade School of Music & High Desert Chamber Music proudly announce Master Class opportunity for violinists and pianists with the Kaplan Duo!
Cascade School of Music & High Desert Chamber Music, in partnership with American String Teachers Association of Oregon, proudly present two Master Classes with the Kaplan Duo.
Violinist Mark Kaplan and his son, pianist David Kaplan, have concertized and performed in numerous chamber music series throughout the country.
Among the world’s leading violinists, Mark Kaplan has maintained a flourishing career as a soloist and chamber musician for almost five decades. He has recorded a wide range of repertoire and has been a sought-after professor at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music since 2005. His son, David Kaplan, is an accomplished soloist and recitalist, and currently serves as an assistant professor and chair of Piano Performance at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Intermediate and advanced violin and piano students who wish to perform in either class are encouraged to apply. Applicants must be a student currently enrolled in a school located in Oregon. The application deadline is Friday, November 17th.
Selected participants will be notified via email on Friday, December 1st.

General public are invited to attend the master class performances for free!
Additionally, all students who submit an application will receive complimentary admission to High Desert Chamber Music's Kaplan Duo’s performance on Friday, December 15, at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Central Oregon.

MARVELous Musical Halloween Adventure
Join us for a spooktacular event filled with musical games, prizes, and fun!
Dress up as your favorite Marvel character (or any character of your choice) and join us for lots of games & prizes including "Find Groot " and Best Costume.
Ages 5-12 welcome (parents too!)
Space is limited to 40 students, so participants will be selected by a random lottery.
Registration for the lottery ends on Wednesday, October 25th, and selected participants will be notified on Thursday, October 26th.

The How's and Why's of Performing
Students will be taught proper performance etiquette. We will discuss why it is so beneficial to your music education to practice "performing," AND how to make it an enjoyable experience! All students interested will be given a chance to perform.
STRINGS DEPARTMENT / 1:00pm - 2:00pm / Studio 18
Learn How To "Recital"
Teachers will instruct how to comport oneself while participating in a recital (how to walk on stage, announce self, arrange music, communicate with accompaniment, etc.). There will be 5-6 slots for students, who will then practice recital etiquette with a piece of music. Finishing with learning an all-levels piece, "Break Beat".
DRUM DEPARTMENT / 1:00pm - 3:00pm / Studio 14
Drum Tuning and Maintenance (1:00pm - 2:30pm)
Students will learn how to tune and take care of their drums. They will gain an understanding of what to listen for prior to and after tuning and how proper maintenance will help them keep their drums sounding great for many years.
Performance Opportunity (2:30pm - 3:00pm)
New students encouraged to share their music.

Getting to know your looper pedal
Looper pedals can be an important addition to the new player's toolkit of practice aids, but there can be bit of a learning curve associated with them. Come learn how to get good results with your looper pedal that you can use to augment your practice time!
